Diese paradiesische Inselkette an der afrikanischen Küste, mit einem bevorzugten Klima und einer das ganze Jahr über gleichmäßigen Temperatur, besteht aus 7 größeren Inseln sowie einigen kleineren.Jede dieser Inseln unterscheidet sich landschaftlich mehr als deutlich von den übrigen.
Gran Canaria wird wegen ihrer äußerst unterschiedlichen Landschaften mit europäischer, afrikanischer und amerikanischer Vegetation genannt auch der kleine Kontinent genannt.
Kaum anderswo findet man so unterschiedliche Landschaftsbilder so nahe beieinander wie auf dieser Insel.
Die fast 2000 Meter hohe Bergkette im Zentrum der Insel, mit ihren gewaltigen Granitfelsen, wird von eindrucksvollen bizarren Schluchten durchschnitten. Felsmassive wechseln sich mit wüstenartigen Landstrichen und tropischer Vegetation ab. An der Küste findet man weite Sandstrände. Ebenso abrupt wechseln die Klimazonen.
Als spanisches Gebiet gehören die Kanaren vollständig zur Europäischen Union. Auf den Inseln gilt das Recht der Europäischen Gemeinschaft, wobei in einigen Bereichen vorteilhaftere Sondervorschriften gelten, die der großen Entfernung zum Festland Rechnung tragen und die Nachteile der Insellage ausgleichen sollen.
Die touristischen Zentren der Insel, vor allem in den Orten Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés, Meloneras und San Agustín bieten alle Annehmlichkeiten die man für einen erholsamen und ausgeglichenen Aufenthalt sucht.
